"Strings” are virtual structures in a 3D space that the visitors can manipulate.
By carefully placing the strings the visitor interacts with, sound processing based on physical modeling and gestures based on natural movement are implied.
Therefore, we wanted to avoid designing specific movements that force the user to behave in a specific way but to interact in a playful way.
Strings was created in collaboration with Alex van Giersbergen, who implemented the user tracking and physics as well as the visual aspect.
The original version was made for the course Bodily Interaction by Matti Niinimäki in Media Lab Helsinki.
So far, we have presented the installation in DASH'16 and the Creative Interaction Exhibition in Tekniikan Museo (2017). In the latter, we adapted the installation in order to become an extension of the power plant.
